Art by KLIMA - Honduran Abstract Artist - About Kenia Lima

+ABOUT

Caribbean-inspired abstract artist based in Tegucigalpa, HN

“I am a Honduran-based abstract painter who is best recognized for my vibrant and vivid nature-inspired paintings.

In several of my works, I capture a borderless, bird’s-eye perspective of nature. Multilayered fields of color, texture, and patterns that are inspired by the splendor of nature and the ocean express my emotions.

My recollections of travel, the connection between colors and emotions, and how these memories shape our way of life and spiritual awareness all have an impact on me. My paintings convey feelings that come from the heart and are infused with vivid memories, vibrant colors, intense emotions, and parts of everyday reality.

In a society where anxiety rules, I want my paintings to convey happiness and delight. I want people to experience a sense of aliveness that is driven by feelings of happiness and gratitude for all the richness and beauty that life has to offer.”

KENIA LIMA

Even though today she’s known as an emerging artist… Kenia Lima is no stranger to the art world.

As a young girl, she was exposed to the works and interesting personalities of many national artists who were clients of her mother, a prominent art broker.

Lively family gatherings often included patrons and artist friends who entertained an eager audience with stories about their world travels.

And… they left an indelible impression on Kenia when they talked about the exotic places where they found inspiration… like the special light and bright hues that ended up in their paintings.

But it wasn’t until April 2020 that Kenia picked up a brush and dabbed it in a paint pot.

After 26 years as a sought-after consultant for international tourism and real estate development projects, the pandemic brought her career and extensive world travel to a screeching halt.

Confinement was torture for Kenia. Traveling had always been synonymous with freedom but now she was shut in, and caring for her dearest and closest friend who had a delicate health condition. What to do?

They decided to see where they could go with painting… and with the internet, they explored every imaginable corner and crevice of the world’s art scene.

Kenia studied renowned artists from Australia, the Nordic countries, Ireland, England, and Germany… and she was influenced by the famous Chinese-French painter Zao Wou Ki, who bridged the divide between Eastern and Western traditions.

Kenia found freedom again…

She discovered a passion for intuitive abstract art, expressing her emotions with acrylics and mixed media… without rules or labels… without constraints… and without even a pencil and sketch pad to guide her.

All her years of living on the small island of Guanaja, the everyday changing skies, the constant movement and flow of the gin-clear turquoise waters, the beat and pulse of being so close and one with nature and the Caribbean…

Now all of this was finding its way to the canvas waiting on her easel.

And the rest is history…

Page forward two-plus years and today Kenia Lima’s works are featured in national and international private collections, and local financial institutions.

It’s a funny thing about freedom. It can be so elusive but yet we can find it in the simplest of things.

And sometimes, it is the wind beneath our wings.
